Vortex Flow Meters
Vortex flow meters measure flows of liquid, gas and steam by detecting the frequency at which vortices are alternatively shed from a bluff body. According to proven laws and physics, the frequency at which the vortices are shed is directly proportional to the flow velocity.
As flow passes a bluff body in the flow stream vortex meter, the vortices create low and high pressure zones behind the bluff body, or shedder bar. Our vortex flow meters are designed with a piezoelectric crystal sensor to detect the pressure exerted by the vortices on the velocity sensor. The sensor converts these “pulses” into electrical signals which are then converted to a frequency by the meter’s electronics allowing the volumetric flow meters to calculate the volumetric flow rate to be determined. Additionally, each vortex flow meter we design features an all welded sensor design which creates a robust sensor and to minimize potential leaks.
With the addition of the optional integrated temperature and pressure sensors, the flow meter can then calculate and output the mass flow rate as well as volumetric flow, temperature, pressure, and density.
Insertion Vortex Flow Meters
Insertion vortex meters measure flow by detecting the local velocity at a strategically located position within the pipe. Our Pro-V™ Model M23 detects the frequency at which vortices are shed from the bluff body located within the sensor head and then converts this to a volumetric flow in the electronics. The Pro-V™ Model M23 also uses the local velocity, along with other parameters, such as fluid type, pipe size and Reynolds number to calculate the average pipe velocity, and consequently, the volumetric flow rate.
Turbine Flow Meters
Insertion turbine flow meters measure flows of liquid, gas, and steam by detecting the frequency of rotation of the turbine blades. According to the proven laws of physics, the frequency at which the turbine rotates is directly proportional to the flow velocity.
Insertion turbine flow meters measure flow by detecting the local velocity at a strategically located position within the pipe. The TurboPro detects the frequency within the sensor head. It uses the local velocity, along with other parameters such as fluid type, pipe size, and Reynolds Number to calculate the average pipe velocity, and consequently, the volumetric flow rate.
With the addition of the optional integrated temperature and pressure sensors, the flow meter can then calculate and output the mass flow rate as well as volumetric flow, temperature, pressure, and density.
Ultrasonic Flow Meters
SONOPRO® Ultrasonic Flow Meter
VorTek Instruments SonoPro® ultrasonic flow meters incorporate high accuracy transit-time ultrasonic technology to deliver accurate and reliable flow metering. The innovative design incorporates matched precision transducers and signal processing circuitry to accurately measure the flow of most liquids over a wide range of velocities.
SonoPro® meters are available with clamp-on or insertion transducers. Clamp-on meters have no wear, create zero pressure loss and do not require process interruptions to install them since they are attached to the outside of the pipe. The insertable version can be installed on any piping and can read the flow rate of any liquid with little to no conductivity such as hydrocarbons.
With the addition of external temperature inputs SonoPro® is able to provide both mass and energy (BTU) metering.
Vorcone™ Flow Meters
VorTek Instruments’ VorCone™ flow meters utilize two different flow meter technologies in combination; vortex and differential pressure. The design has blended the two separate flow metering principles into one hybrid system where the two meters complement each other’s performance. This combination allows for the prediction of the fluid density, volumetric flow rate and mass flow rate without any fluid density information being required from an external source.
This ability to measure fluid density allows the meter to provide several valuable outputs. The VorCone meter can calculate the density of changing gas mixtures. For example, natural gas is typically a composition of many different gases which can vary over time and vary by application. In saturated steam service, the meter produces a reliable steam quality (dryness) measurement and steam mass flow rate reading. In wet natural gas service, the meter is able to provide a reliable liquid loading measurement and gas mass flow rate reading. These are a few examples of the unique capabilities of the VorCone meter.
With the addition of two differential pressure transmitters, advanced diagnostic software (DP Health Check™) continually monitors and verifies the meter’s performance. The VorCone product line is available with a wide range of options and meter configurations to meet your specific application requirements.
